I was walking around the area today and first stopped at St Vartan church. Then I walked to this park nearby. It is a very large park with designated areas for pickleball, soccer and play. Well maintained and very popular, especially the pickleball area.

Alex Lopez and Changster are just salty that people are utilizing the courts lol. These are always used for pickleball - there is a pickleball group and there's nets that are stored here that you can take out by texting one of the group admins. People are almost always out here in the morning/after work, and also on the weekends. It's nice cuz there's 2 sides- north is for more intermediate/beginner players while the south side is the "challenge" courts where the really good players play. Everyone is super friendly and it's first come first serve - you don't need a partner and can just show up and play. I just wish they would repave the courts so that they are smoother/tennis courts - they are like this rock gravel and sometimes the ball bounces funny off the ground

In response to what “yo” has written on the 31st of July in the year of 2025: No. These courts are not always used for pickleball. These are not pickleball courts. These are HANDBALL COURTS. Alex Lopez is 100% accurate with his review. There are nets that have been just left on the court, taking up space. Handball players always have priority on these courts as they are HANDBALL COURTS. There is a group of handball players that use these courts as well. These handball walls and handball courts have been around longer than you have been alive. These are handball courts. Nets should not be left there for days on end. It is also not first come first serve because handball players always have priority. St. Vartans is one of the few remaining handball courts in Midtown and in the borough of Manhattan. The handball courts in James J Walker in Greenwich Village have already been converted. Handball courts at Central park have already been converted. Handball Courts and the sport of handball are an integral part of local and native New York City culture. The sport of handball is important to locals who grew up in New York City, locals who spent time in recess playing handball in their elementary school, middle school, and high school, locals who took their first boyfriends and girlfriends on dates to handball courts, locals who spent their childhood in New York City, locals who spent their formative years in New York City.

Cool spot, with a local feel. And close to the New York ferry. Enjoyed playing there, but there were a couple of controversies regarding rules and who plays next. I would recommend posting the rules on a wooden board and attaching to a permanent fixture.

"These are always used for pickleball." What a colonialist attitude. These courts are handball courts and used for the sport of handball.
