This a great park with awesome trails and much more to offer. Its like a magical spot in the city that makes you feel your far out in the woods somewhere. Great play areas for the kids to enjoy as well as basketball, volleyball ball and a soccer field. This is must see for residents of our city and for those visiting.

2/23/2025 Needed something to do with my grandkids, ages 3 & 5, after having been cooped up with the dangerously frigid temperatures of the last 2 weeks. It's a gorgeous park where the street that divides the parking lot from the park is brick. Even with snow on the ground, which created icy puddles we needed to navigate, the kids had a blast for a solid hour. They were able to experience every physical challenge offered on the park equipment. I think their favorite part was the swings. The other patrons were friendly & respectful. We had no reason to be apprehensive of the dogs that were also visiting the park. I'm looking forward to exploring more Kansas City parks that are south of the river as we generally stay in the Northland. As the weather gets warmer, we'll add picnics to our outings!

I like this park, because it’s easy to access (in the heart of midtown Kansas City, MO), but surprisingly still very quiet. Lots of wide open spaces, which is great because my dog doesn’t do well in small areas too close to other dogs. There’s a natural spring running through the park, with signage to describe it. I usually see parents with kids at the children’s play areas (there are 2), which are pretty big. Parking is never a problem (big parking lot by the football / soccer field, & smaller one right next to that, by the community center). Downsides are that the park isn’t too large, & some parts feel disconnected from others, since it’s shaped to fit between residential blocks. Mountain biking MTB / hiking trails are short & on the hillsides, so I usually don’t go with my dog on them, because it’d be tight if we ran into anyone. Have seen some suspicious-looking people rarely (it’s in the city, after all), but never had anything happen or anyone bother me. I also saw a spot where it looks like a homeless person lived / lives (tent in between the trees), but never saw anyone there.

I don’t get around to the Valentine/Coleman Heights area much anymore. Fortunately once a year I get the opportunity to video the always splendid DANCE IN THE PARK! An event produced by CITY IN MOTION. The natural amphitheater setting makes for a magical gathering place for people to enjoy the many styles of dance being performed. I’m 75 now but as a boy of 7 till about 12 I spent many hours exploring Roanoke Park and its surroundings. It truly holds a warm place in my heart.♥️

If it is hot be prepared that the whole play ground will be hot though. It was an awesome park! Lots to do the kids really enjoyed. Make sure you observe the park before letting kids just have free range though, I found an open bottle of Hennessy with alcohol still in it at the top of the grass mound. My kids didn't pay it any attention but still just make sure you pay attention to the places your kids play at! Overall a really fun and entertaining park!
