This public city park in South Phoenix is one of those places that leaves you with mixed feelings. On one hand it lacks a lot of basic things that many people expect from a well maintained park. On the other hand for a park in this part of the city it is not too bad and it still serves its purpose for some of the surrounding community. You can tell it has potential but very little attention is actually given to making it better. One of the biggest issues is the restrooms. They are almost always dirty and poorly maintained. At times there are homeless people inside doing who knows what which makes it uncomfortable and sometimes unsafe to even go in. If you plan on using the restrooms you should definitely go in with caution because cleanliness and security are clearly not priorities here. The sports areas are a bit of a mixed bag. The volleyball court and the soccer court seem to be in decent shape and are probably the best parts of the park. They look usable and maintained enough for casual games. The basketball courts however are outdated and not well taken care of. The surfaces are worn down and it feels like they have been forgotten for years with no real effort to improve them. Don’t even get me started on the “tennis courts” THERE IS NO NETS, the ground has cracks and you can’t really even play in it, I wish it was redone and there was like pickle ball courts or something else in place. In the center of the park there is a giant field that is criminally underused and underused is honestly an understatement. Nothing ever happens there. There are no city events no community gatherings no organized activities at all. It feels like wasted space and that is what makes it so sad. This field could be a huge positive for the neighborhood but instead it just sits there empty and ignored. The playground situation is also disappointing. The old playground was replaced by the current one which is not terrible but when compared to playgrounds in nicer parts of northern Phoenix it feels outdated and basic. It works but it does not stand out in any way. Finally the parking lot has clearly not been redone in years. It is bumpy ugly and barely even has visible parking lines. Overall the park feels neglected and it seems like the city simply does not care about improving it.

Great large park with a few balance/gymnastic play pieces. Great for walking, gathering and bathrooms (no doors) but safe.

Clean park with a few tables where you can sit down for a while. There are some big trees but there was limited shade. I took my dog just to walk around and be outdoors for a while, we enjoyed the quiet and open space. There is a walking trail, I don't know the distance of the loop. There's a playground with a ramada w/tables & charcoal grill near it, no one was there at the time during the day that we were. There's also South Mountain Community Center, I'm not sure what is offered there. Overall a nice, quiet, clean park with plenty of parking. The 4 stars is only because there's not more seating, benches spread around would be nice and helpful for those of us with disabilities preventing long distances. And because of the lack of shady areas.

For a public park, it is what it is … I tried to enjoy the day in the sun and was subjected to having to watch homeless people copulate and be hit on by people that were unaware that I don’t wish to date anyone - and verbally berated because I rejected them. 🤷🏽
