I have visited this park many times with my children and always believed it to be a suitable space for families. However, my most recent experience was so unexpected and disheartening that I feel compelled to share it. While assisting my baby —who is not yet walking independently— to climb the small steps of a playground structure, I was approached by a park employee. He informed me that no parent is allowed on any part of the playground equipment, even when assisting a very young child who clearly requires hands-on support. I calmly explained that a baby of this age needs physical guidance and that preventing a parent from offering such basic assistance seemed unreasonable. Despite this, he continued to repeat that these were “park rules.” When I expressed that, under such conditions, I would prefer not to return, his response was: “It’s better if you don’t come back.” Hearing that from someone representing the park was profoundly disappointing. Another family who was present witnessed the situation, intervened, and expressed how unreasonable it all seemed. They were equally surprised by the treatment and ultimately decided to leave the playground as well. That, in itself, speaks volumes. I fully understand that adults should not use swings or slides intended strictly for children. However, prohibiting a parent from standing on a small set of steps solely to support a baby is not only illogical, it raises questions about the safety of the equipment itself. If a structure cannot support the weight of a light adult offering brief assistance, it is difficult to believe it is truly safe for older children, many of whom weigh the same or more. It is unfortunate that a park with the potential to be a welcoming place for families is instead being undermined by unclear policies and, most concerning, unprofessional treatment of visitors. Parents do not come to “use” the playground equipment; we come to protect and accompany our children, especially the youngest ones who require constant support. With genuine regret, I have decided not to return. I sincerely hope the administration will review these practices and create a safer, clearer, and more respectful environment for the families who value these community spaces.

Carlow Park is a great place to spend time outdoors it’s clean, and offers a variety of activities for all ages. The pickleball courts are great. Unfortunately, the experience is often overshadowed by one particular park ranger he said his name is Jerry who consistently brings a negative energy to the park. He’s known for being rude and having an unwelcoming attitude. On one occasion, he made unnecessary and snarky comments to a group of pickleball players who were simply gathering their belongings after the lights had turned off. No one was playing in the dark, yet he treated the situation with hostility and threatened to start closing the park at 8:45 PM instead of 0900. There are always people left in a store after closing time but they close the doors and not let other people in, these people were playing and on the way out it’s not like they continued to play or jumped in to play. This isn’t an isolated incident either. His attitude is consistently negative, and many others probably feel uncomfortable like I do in saying anything out of fear of being targeted or kicked out. It’s unfortunate, because Carlow Park has so much potential as a welcoming community space…if only the staff reflected that same spirit. GET RID OF HIM. 07/31/25 Update: he was here again and everyone was arguing with him because he was kicking everyone out at 0850 saying the park closes at 0900. But making everyone leave at that moment. He was arguing with two other groups and then was nasty and rude to us and started to argue.

The Pickleball courts are nice and well maintained. However the park recreation guy that unlocks the pickleball courts is rude and abrasive. I believe his name is Jerry... He needs to be fired before he rubs someone the wrong way !!
